The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center invites you to join us for a 5-part virtual event series introducing the core tenets of HIV clinical care. This virtual series is targeted towards new employees and healthcare professionals new to HIV.
Session 1 will cover HIV Testing and Counseling with a focus on defining the symptoms and causes of HIV and AIDS as well as testing and counseling basics for HIV healthcare providers.
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

- Define the symptoms and causes of HIV/AIDS and effects of HIV/AIDS on the immune system.
- Describe the types of HIV tests, how to administer them, how to interpret results, and how to communicate those results to the patient.
- Describe the stigma associated with HIV and how to help patients navigate through it.
- Describe actual vs. perceived risk to the patient.
- Discuss the basics of counseling/MI for a patient in a clinical setting
