Objectives:
1. Define the principles of perinatal HIV exposure and transmission.
2. Describe the epidemiology of perinatal HIV infection in the USA and Washington, DC.
3. Explain how to identify HIV infection in mothers, neonates, and infants.
4. Describe the principles of perinatal antiretroviral therapy for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission.
5. Describe the current recommendations for the approach to infant feeding choices among mothers with HIV.
