HIV Prevention Counseling Series: Fundamentals is a one-day in person course that provides guidelines and skill-building opportunities for professionals who implement prevention counseling and HIV antibody testing. This workshop incorporates recommendations and strategies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for personalizing prevention counseling sessions before and after testing for HIV. The Facts course is a prerequisite for this course.
UPON COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM, THE PARTICIPANT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- Identify strategies to support clients in making behavior changes that will reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV
- Demonstrate through practice sessions the six steps of prevention counseling
- Support the client in making a decision about testing and preparing for the result
- Assist the client who tests to begin to integrate the result emotionally, behaviorally, and socially
Intended Audience:
HIV Testers, Disease Intervention Specialists, HIV Case Managers, Nurses, Social Workers, and other professionals who may be working with people at risk for acquiring HIV.
To receive the event access code to register for this class, please review the following information and complete all requested pre-requisites.
***Requirements and Pre-requisites:
1) All attendees must have attended the HIV Prevention Counseling Series: The Facts class in the state of Virginia in the past 12 months in order to attend this Fundamentals course, as the information in this training builds upon Facts.
2) To be considered for a spot in this class, we must have a copy of all of your certificates of completion for The Facts live and online module sessions prior to the scheduled training. **If you did not complete the FACTS with Inova Juniper but with a partner site, you will need to email a copy of all of your certificates of completion for The Facts live and online module sessions to Chanel Marshall at chanel.marshall@inova.org.
Once all certificates of completion have been confirmed received, you will then be provided the event access code to register.

Certificates will be provided upon completion of this program which confirms 7.5 hours of training.
