The Pittsburgh Regional Partner, located at the School of Public Health (SPH), University of Pittsburgh, serves Ryan White providers, community health centers, prisons, and HIV clinical professionals throughout 50 counties in Western and Central Pennsylvania. The program is housed within the Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (IDM) at SPH.
With access to a diverse range of resources in Pittsburgh and throughout PA, the Pittsburgh RP responds to the unique training needs of both urban and rural providers. We offer comprehensive, needs-assessment-based clinical training, clinical consultation, and technical assistance to community health centers, clinics, and organizations, and Level III mini-residencies to individuals. Preceptorships are available for medical, nursing, dental, and pharmacy professionals, tailored according to individual practitioner needs. Locations for preceptorships include Pittsburgh and Central Pennsylvania.
Our location at SPH provides us with both support and resources. The School of Public Health, established in 1948, is a Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)-accredited school in the United States offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in public health. The school’s faculty is involved in research projects amounting to $50 million. The SPH Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology is the home of the MidAtlantic AETC, and has special strengths due to its close association with the Division of Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine, and the HIV/AIDS programs at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). SPH is a major center for epidemiology and HIV treatment research, and houses one of four national centers for the Multi-center AIDS Cohort Study (MACS). IDM conducts research on HIV prevention, vaccine development and trials, HIV lipodystrophy, and HIV clinical trials.
