The Fundamentals of Prevention Counseling provides guidelines and skill-building opportunities for professionals who implement prevention counseling and HIV antibody testing. This workshop incorporates recommendations and strategies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for personalizing prevention counseling sessions before and after testing for HIV.
This course is divided into three portions, and provided over the following days. The material covered each day builds upon the material(s) covered the day before.
Session 1 (Counseling Skills Basics) Wednesday, December 16th 9:30am - 1:30pm
Session 2: (Before the Test) Thursday, December 17th 9:30am - 1:30pm
Session 3: (Giving Test Results) Friday, December 18th 9:30am - 1:30pm
Requirements and Pre-requisites:
1) All attendees must have attended Prevention Counseling Series: Facts within the state of Virginia in the past 12 months in order to attend this Fundamentals course, as the information provided in this course builds upon Facts.
2) Attendees are required to attend all three sessions and complete all learning assessments in order to receive a certificate of completion at the close of the third session. The certificate of completion will show a total of 11.5 hours of contact hours completed.
Prior to registering, please ensure that your schedule is blocked off on the dates and times listed above. Participants who are not present for the entirety of the three sessions will not receive a certificate.
3) Working webcams and microphones are required for all three sessions as this is a highly interactive course. Participants must remain on camera for the duration of all three sessions, and must use their microphones when answering questions or other interacting with the course.
4) The course will take place over Zoom. You will receive all zoom instructions in a separate email. Please use the same zoom link to log in each day.
