LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Define trauma and identify symptoms and the impact it has on an individual, particularly persons with HIV.
- Identify techniques first responders can utilize to minimize trauma responses during a crisis.
- Describe how trauma-informed practices can positively impact the ability of first responders to respond appropriately in the field and effectively support vulnerable populations, such as people with HIV.
- Discuss the importance of first responder “self-care” and how to respond when the first responder is affected by trauma.
